Senior Staff Accountant Job Description
Location: Tampa, FL
Reports to: Controller
Remote Status: On-site
Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing the day-to-day accounting activities, and ensuring the integrity of financial information. This position is responsible for transactional posting and journal entries, reconciliations, cash application, and collections. The ideal candidate must have extensive experience in public accounting and be proficient in Great Plains and Intacct accounting systems. Additionally, the Senior Accountant may be called upon by the Controller, as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Transactional Posting & Journal Entries:
- Prepare, review, and post journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
- Review general ledger accounts and correct journal entries for accuracy.
Reconciliations:
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations.
- Resolve discrepancies by investigating documentation, ensuring that all reconciling items are cleared in a timely manner.
- Prepare, review, and reconcile balance sheet accounts to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
Cash Application:
- Oversee process, and deposit cash receipts (including collections) and apply payments to the appropriate customer accounts.
- Ensure that all cash application transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies are addressed promptly.
- Work closely with the accounts receivable team to ensure timely and accurate processing of payments.
Collections:
- Manage and monitor the collections process to ensure timely receipt of outstanding receivables.
- Communicate with customers to resolve billing discrepancies and address payment issues.
- Collaborate with internal departments to streamline the collections process and improve cash flow.
Support Functions:
- Support Financial Reporting and Analysis: Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements, provide variance analysis.
- Ensure accounting practices align with GAAP.
- Identify and execute solutions to discrepancies in financial records
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from a four-year University.
- Very strong excel skillset.
- CPA license, and or related Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in public accounting.
- Proficiency in Great Plains and Intacct accounting systems is required.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Experience with financial audits and preparation of audit schedules.
